Stepping through the front door of the two-bedroom house to realise that the roommates had gone away for the evening was like a gift from the gods. Gary was still home, of course, but that’s no different from any other time.

Besides, when he hasn’t gotten himself halfway through a six-pack before I get home from work I tend to enjoy his company…
